Common, Queen Latifah, Chance The Rapper & More To Appear On ‘Hamilton’ Mixtape

(AllHipHop News) The award-winning Broadway musical Hamilton is expanding its brand to include a mixtape with several A-list performers. Lin-Manuel Miranda, the play’s creator, and Questlove, the soundtrack’s executive producer, spoke with Vanity Fair about the forthcoming project.

“So far, Busta Rhymes, Ben Folds, Regina Spektor, Latifah, Common, Chance the Rapper, and others. People are coming out of the woodwork, knocking on the door,” said Questlove. “Half the songs are cover versions of songs in the show, and the others are interpolations—we’ll take some of this, some of that, and make something new out of it.”

The Hamilton Mixtape is expected to be released this fall, and it will also feature appearances by Usher and Sia. While Miranda stars in Hamilton on stage, the Tony and Grammy winner will not lend his voice to the musical collection.

“I’m not going to be on it because for me the goal is to keep this inspired by the original. But it is funny that this was my first idea, and now it’s come full cycle and coming after the show,” explains Miranda.

A PBS documentary about Hamilton is coming in the fall as well. Hamilton’s America will be broadcast as part of the network’s Great Performances series.
