All Hip Hop correspondent Kylie Krabbe was there on the scene to talk to The Game, Joe Torry, Tiffany Haddish and more at this event that had many stars from music and film eager to lent their support to the first movie from the brilliant comedy team behind Comedy Central’s popular series “Key & Peele.” See the interviews below in our exclusive segment:
(AllHipHop News) Fans will be able pay tribute to late icon Prince during a public memorial in Los Angeles next month (May 16).
The “Purple Rain” star, 57, was found dead at his Paisley Park studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota on April 21, and next Friday (May 16), Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti will host a memorial for the legend.
The event will be held at Los Angeles City Hall, where Prince filmed his music video for 1991 hit “Diamonds and Pearls.” The building has been lit up with purple lights in honor of the star since his passing.
Mayor Garcetti praised Prince following his death, releasing a statement which reads:
“Prince was a once-in-a-generation talent. His genius on stage, and in the studio, was matched only by his determination to protect the integrity of his art and defend the rights of artists to control what they create.
“Memories of his work take me back to my childhood – and years later, I had the good fortune to witness his brilliance during an incredible performance at the Roosevelt Hotel. That night, I spoke to him briefly about my admiration for his music. Today, I join people in Los Angeles and throughout the world in mourning the loss of a true icon.”
Meanwhile, Prince’s half-brother Alfred Jackson has spoken out for the first time since his sibling’s passing.
He tells Entertainment Tonight, “I miss my brother, because my brother was everything in the world to me. God bless Prince, God bless the world. He’s a legend, he really is. He was a genius.”
A Minnesota judge recently placed bank bosses at the Bremer Trust, National Association, in charge of Prince’s estate after determining the superstar died without a will.
The singer’s sister, Tyka Nelson, asked a state judge to appoint her as a “special administrator”, and insisted she would be an heir to her brother’s fortune, while their five half-siblings were potential beneficiaries too.
Prince’s assets have reportedly been valued at less than $150 million, according to TMZ.com.
The Gumball 3000 celebrity car race is set to kick off in Dublin, Ireland on May 1. The 3,000 mile speeds through several countries, as drivers race to the finish line for charity.
This year’s drivers will wind through Prague, Hungary and Budapest before arriving at their final destination at the Palace of the Parliament Bucharest, Romania.

Over 120 cars, from vintage to luxury, will hit the road this weekend for Gumball 3000. Vehicles began arriving Merrion Square today (April 30).
This year, drivers like Eve and Afrojack will be racing from Dublin, Ireland to Romania, as hundreds of thousands of people cheer on their favorite celebrities.
Over 60 million people are expected to tune in to watch hottest vehicles race in the Gumball 3000 rally.
Luxury cars that costs hundreds of thousands – and sometimes millions of dollars – will be on display during the race.
Car enthusiasts can expect to see brands like Bugatti’s, Porsche’s, Lamborghini’s and Ferrari’s on the streets.
In 2014, Eve married Gumball 3000 CEO Maximillion Cooper.

Tupac and Kadafi were god brothers.
Kadafi, who was also murdered in 1996 shortly after Pac’s death, spent many hours in the Hummer during the short time they were able to enjoy it.
The license plate included with the vehicle reads “YAKNPAK” as a tribute to the slain rap stars.
Also included are cassettes owned by Tupac including promotional cassettes for Michael Jackson’s Thriller and 2Pac’s All Eyez on Me.
The auction is scheduled to end on May 11.
The sale of the Hummer comes as shooting wraps up on a major feature film titled “All Eyez On Me” about the life and times of Tupac Shakur, which is slated for a November release.

(AllHipHop News) Authorities investigating the circumstances surrounding Prince’s death have executed a search warrant on his local Minnesota pharmacy.
The superstar had been photographed making a stop at his local Walgreens on the eve of his death, and on Thursday (April 28) officials carried out a thorough search of the pharmacy, looking for prescription records which could shed some light on his medical issues.
According to TMZ.com, Prince had made four prescription runs to the Walgreens in the week leading up to his untimely passing, days after he was briefly hospitalized in Moline, Illinois for what his representative insisted was just a nasty bout of the flu.
The health scare on April 15 had forced the pilot of his private jet to make an emergency landing in Moline as they traveled home following a gig in Atlanta, Georgia, and reports have since alleged Prince had actually suffered an overdose of Percocet.
Authorities had descended on the Walgreens pharmacy searching for paperwork in Prince’s name or any possible aliases, and they are said to be targeting other medical officials who may have also provided medication to the singer.
Prescription pills are also alleged to have been found at his Paisley Park pad.
An autopsy was performed last week, but the cause of death is pending further test results. His body was cremated on April 23, after which a private memorial service was held at his Paisley Park home.
Meanwhile, a rare piece of Prince memorabilia from his 1984 cult film “Purple Rain” is heading to the auction block.
The black and white blazer he wore for a motorbike scene, which also featured co-star Apollonia Kotero, is expected to fetch at least $6,000 when it goes up for sale as part of a Profiles in History auction on June 29.
The original seller claims her sister, a make-up artist, was gifted the jacket from Prince after they worked together on “Purple Rain.”

But we will say that getting the lowdown on the most current aggressions and feral treacheries that we’ve come to know and love from the Lyons, their besties and their enemies… it’s pretty high up there on the guilty pleasures list, so if you slip and take a peek we won’t fault you. So, spoiler alert here it goes:
Anika Calhoun (Grace Gealey) gets vital support from Cookie Lyon (Taraji P. Henson) in her time of need. In the surprise twist of twists, Cookie, for the sake of Hakeem’s (Bryshere Y. Gray) unborn baby, actually calms down Anika when she is on her way to the hospital in an ambulance. When the paramedics can’t calm down Boo Boo Kitty’s crazy, Cookie is actually a maternal pillar of strength for the corporate side chick that she loves to hate. But wait a minute… why is Anika on her way to the hospital?
Anika has some sort of unexplained panic attack that puts her in the hospital. Right before Cookie is set to ‘handle’ the problem that Boo Boo Kitty poses as the new human incubator for the next generation of the Lyon dynasty, she runs smack dab into the paramedics taking Anika out of her house on a stretcher. Early on, Cookie calls it as a panic attack – but is it? Honestly, it’s hard to tell seeing as Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) has threatened Anika’s life and Anika has been known to stalk Hakeem’s fiancee Laura (Jamila Velazquez), the woman who in all likelihood will be her baby’s step mother. Only time, or perhaps the two remaining episodes up until the end of season 2, will tell.
Empire board members intend to elect Lucious Lyon and Cookie Lyon as the new co CEOs of Empire. Honestly, with all of the deft public mending that Cookie has done to keep the family together as a cohesive business entity, we could have seen this one coming, but it’s still pretty darn shocking. Even more shocking is that Lucious, upon hearing about it from the board holders, graciously declares that he thinks this is a good idea – to the slack jawed surprise of Cookie. Factual hiccup – when Cookie got out of jail in “Empire” season 1, didn’t Lucious say that per federal law, as a convicted felon Cookie could never hold the office of CEO in a company like Empire, let alone a publicly traded company? Hmmmm. However, no matter what the logistics, seeing the hug that Lucious gives Cookie after hearing the news, one can’t think that this hug has less of a relationship to celebration versus direct kinship with the kiss of death.
Soon after becoming Empire’s very public face for Bipolar Disorder, Andre (Trai Byers) learns that Lucious’ mother, Leah Walker (Leslie Uggams) is alive. Courtesy of the rage of yet another woman sexually scorned and betrayed by Lucious, this particular one being that shameless journalist Harper Scott (Annie Ilonzeh), Andre learns the exact details and location of his dear old departed bipolar grandmother, who is in fact not departed at all, as she is living just outside of Philly. With this revelation, it’s a good guess that there are more bombshell inconsistencies lurking in the dark picture that Lucious has been painting publicly and privately with regards to his complicated relationship from mother to son. And so the plot thickens….
(AllHipHop News) “My Neck, My Back” rapper Khia, born Khia Shamone Finch, took time to diss Beyoncé today on a radio show causing her name to trend on several social media platforms.
Afterwards the radio outburst, the female rapper who goes by @QueenKhia on Twitter and khiathugmisses on IG then proceeded to drop a litany of Tweets aimed at Beyoncé and her husband Jay Z.
Throughout the charade, Khia continued to refer to herself as “#MotorMoufMoufAlmighty.”
In addition to calling out Beyonce in a series of inflammatory statements on air, Khia also tried to include Oprah’s Harpo Productions in the put-on.
“Why was Serena humping on the floor?? After all the years of tennis trainging with her father…” Khia continued.
After the initial rant, Khia then proceeded to share her beliefs on race and the plight of Black women in 2016 as it pertains to Beyoncé and her recent Super Bowl performance that drew controversy from conservatives, police forces and the media.

The film will hit cinemas two days before Mother’s Day (May 8).

The project boasts a host of features including Makonnen,Quavo (Migos), Young Scooter, Trinidad James, DJ Drama, Reese, Fredo Santana, Verse Simmonds, Sy Ari Da Kid, Rich The Kid, Smurf, OGD, Dr. Phill, Sonny BSM.
But one of the most surprising features comes from comedian, Andy Milonokis on the track “Right Now” that also features Chief Keef.
Waka Flocka and Gucci also are reunited on this project, squashing the inter-squad beef officially on wax.

With fans first jumping to Tidal for Prince and Beyoncé and now Apple Music to hear Drake, Pandora is jumping in on the hype and will be spinning Drake’s Views album at 3 pm PST today (April 29).
With the release of two singles on the project, Drake has racked up more than 16 million spins on Pandora.
Since April 8th, the track “One Dance” has reached more than 9.1 million spins, while the track “Pop Style” has reached more than 7 million spins since April 8th.
In addition, Drake’s had over 630,000 station adds since the release of his two singles.
Previously it was publicized that the project only initially be available exclusively on streaming giant Apple Music.
Access to Drake’s latest album Views was thought to be exclusive to the Apple Music streaming service for one week.

Cash Money co-owners Birdman and Slim recently revealed that they are currently in the early stages of developing film scripts for a Cash Money biopic. Birdman said,
“Everything we’ve ever did – and I got 20 plus years selling records – nothing we ever did is worth more than that script. I’m excited about the script. That’s something I really want to do.”
Birdman was inspired by ‘Straight Outta Compton’ and its success.
“I think that Dr. Dre and Ice Cube…I think they are geniuses for what they have done and accomplished. For them to do that and to make it trend-setting, they opened doors for us. And I just think that what we have is way more special, because we’re in modern times,” said Birdman.

(AllHipHop News) The legal issues continue on for Young Dro as a warrant has been issued for Young Dro’s arrest.
The rapper, born D’Juan Montreal Hart, skipped court yesterday (April 28) after alleged theft charges.
The theft charges stem from Dro’s theft of stripper Robyn Fly’s Cadillac CTS.
When Dro was asked about the car theft with the Breakfast Club in September last year, he gave a broken and barely audible response as DJ Envy asked the rapper to speak up.
Ultimately Dro explained that his “brothers from hood in the trap” ended up borrowing the car and they got pulled over.
“She was following the car, she had tracking on the car, she knew it wasn’t me in the car,” Dro told The Breakfast Club.
In March of 2015 Dro was reportedly charged with theft by conversion of leased or rented personal property for an incident that occurred in February earlier that year.
Sooner or later, the world may hear something with DJ Khaled and Chance the Rapper. Recently, the DJ/motivational speaker took to Snapchat (as always) to spread the news that linked up with the Chi-Town rapper in Little Havana, before his performance at Beyonce’s “Formation” Tour in Miami. According the clips, the two were recorded dancing for a video shoot, and you can hear a sample of their new music playing in the background. However, no official leak of the single is available, yet.
Last week, we covered De La Soul’s performance at the National Cannabis Festival in Washington, DC. Along with the legendary rap group’s long list of hits performed, as well Plug One’s performance of “Excursions” to honor the late member of A Tribe Called Quest, Phife Dawg, De La premiered the single “TrainWreck”, a track that was supposedly from their highly anticipated album, And the Anonymous Nobody.
The project was slated for a August 26th release, featuring big names including Snoop Dogg, 2 Chainz, Little Dragon, and many other artists. However, to keep fans excited for the release, De La Soul dropped a project titled For Your Pain & Suffering. Obviously poking fun on the release date of their crowd-funded album, For Your Pain And Suffering is a free four-track EP with only one feature from producer Dave West, also featuring “TrainWreck on the project as well.

The DMV representative will hit the stage in front of his home crowd with his band BobMoeKill. The musicians made up of mostly George Washington University students are set to assist Ace as he runs through songs from his well received projectsUs Vs Robots,Egos, Potential & Halos, andBaby Need Food.
Before he was putting rhymes together for his own work, Ace took on the task of trying to put his friends on. However, a tragedy five years ago led to the Gaithersburg, Maryland native to step behind the microphone.
“My homie ‘Gino’ Cosgrove passed in 2011. He was doing the whole rap thing, and I would try to manage him – you know, set him up with producers and studio time, sh-t like that,” Ace explains to AllHipHop.com. “When he passed, I started to live at my homie Shane’s house where he had a studio set up. I would just see a bunch of rappers come by, and I kind of just started rapping myself.”
While Washington’s Hip Hop scene has been building its reputation over the last several years, at the time Ace began rapping, the city was mostly getting national press for political battles and the controversy over the football team’s mascot. A young Cosgrove initially had to travel outside of The District to locations like New York and Philadelphia in order to gather fans for his growing brand.
DC is now demanding the attention of the Hip Hop industry. Ace is a member of a collective of local artists known as Hostile Youth, a unit helping to raise awareness about the talent surging in the nation’s capital.
“My homie Hassani Kwess had the whole Hostile Youth thing already going. I met him, Vaunfe, and Black Diamond through Uno Hype. We just started connecting and making music together,” Cosgrove states.
Besides DC, the DMV region is also composed of another major city in Baltimore, Maryland. Forty miles to the north of Washington is the site where Freddie Gray fell into a coma while in police custody and later died as a result of the questionable treatment by BPD officers. The 25-year-old’s death led to a youth driven uprising and the State’s Attorney charging six officers with various crimes.
Beatles legend John Lennon is quoted saying, “I think the music reflects the state that the society is in.” The current state of American society involves necessary public conversations about police brutality and social justice.
Cosgrove personifies Lennon’s declaration by using his music to confront the relevant issues his generation has had to face. In particular, the song “Freddies Dead” addresses the anger many young people felt after learning of the circumstances of Gray’s killing.
“I think what happened in the Freddie Gray case is sad as f-ck. I think music is the most powerful thing in the world,” says Ace. “So as a Hip Hop artist, I think it’s my job to express with my music what other people are feeling but are scared to say.”
The 24-year-old performer is not afraid to speak on the subject of spirituality either. His catalog features cuts like “Lost Of Faith” and “Lord Have Mercy.” The latter song has a hook where Ace announces “the devil couldn’t stop me.” Those are not just inconsequential lyrics. The words represent a personal mentality that drives the man who recites them.
“Religion plays a big role. I’m not a super-religious person, meaning I don’t go to church every Sunday, but to me I feel like I made it this far because of my guardian angels and hard work,” responds Cosgrove when asked about the role of religion in his creative process. “I think sometimes when we as humans reach a low point we tend to lose our faith, so I talk a lot about that in my music.”
Like any person walking this Earth, Ace Cosgrove experiences moments of dejection and disappointment. On his song “Burning Slums,” he opens up about having to deal with individuals around him being jealous of the productive moves happening in his life. However, the ascending rhymer is attempting to avoid those resentful cynics in his outer circle.
“I’m a pretty distant person to begin with, so I deal with envious people by just saying, ‘F-ck it, f-ck them. I’m going to make the music even better and see if they are more envious when I drop this new sh-t.’ I’ve always been the type to not need people in my life anyways. If they stick around, cool. If not, f-ck em. They can eat a d-ck,” Cosgrove declares.
The number of haters surely rose when Ace’s 2014 song “Making Moves” was featured during a recentepisode ofHouse Of Lies. The popular Showtime series starring Don Cheadle and Kristen Bell selected the track for the season five premiere which aired earlier this month.
“Making Moves” has currently totaled over 24,000 plays on SoundCloud. Going by the user comments on SC or the top search suggestions on Google,House Of Liessent a large number of listeners in Cosgrove’s direction.
He continues, “My reaction [to the song’s placement on the show] was just like, ‘Yes, I’m doing something right here.’ I think the song started picking up a lot because ofHouse Of Lies. The song is almost two years old. Before theHouse Of Liesplacement, the views were much lower than that, so shout out to the plug.”
More tunes from A.C. are on the way. Just this week he dropped his Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz inspired single “Bia-Bia” produced by Super Miles. A follow-up effort toBaby Need Foodis inevitable, and other festival appearances such as the one at Broccoli City is likely in the future as well.
As his fan base expands, Ace Cosgrove is ready to take on the position as one of the musical leaders of the DMV. But don’t look for the creator to become part of the paparazzi culture that dominates entertainment news at the moment. His focus is the artistry not the fame.

(AllHipHop News) Chicago rapper Chief Keef and Atlanta producer Zaytoven have connected on songs together such as “Let Me Know” and “Flattered.” But Sosa fans should probably not expect to hear the rhymer on any other Zay tracks in the near future.
Footage of Keef talking on FaceTime about Zaytoven made its way to the internet. The clip features the 20-year-old explaining why he has not released any other Zay-produced records.
“I got no Zaytoven beats. I’m going to tell you why though. I ain’t gonna tell you right now though. But yeah, it’s some fu sh-t going on. It’s a lot of little goofy sh-t,” stated Keef. “Plus, he gives everybody the same beat.”
Chief Keef went on to accuse Zaytoven of giving other artists such as Icewear Vezzo, Cash Out, Migos, and 21 Savage beats that he already rapped over. At one point Keef said, “That n-gga Zaytoven had to be drunk.” He even called out fellow Atlanta based producer Metro Boomin – “Zay and Metro do that sh-t. Sonny Digital don’t do that sh-t.”
After admitting he recently gave the same beat to different people as well, Keef added, “I ain’t gonna lie. I just got on my Zaytoven sh-t. If Zaytoven do that sh-t, f-ck it. I’m finna do that sh-t too… That sh-t is not right. That ain’t cool.”

“It’s a blessing that somebody from the U.K., from London, got the time to meet somebody from America and we put it all together,” said Desiigner. “The beat was on YouTube. Shout out to Menace again. We did our thing.”
The Pusha T protégé reportedly only paid $200 for the “Panda” beat. British producer Adnan “Menace” Khan sold the track to Desiigner in 2014. Parts of “Panda” were also used on Kanye West’s “Pt. 2” off The Life Of Pablo album.

While there have been hints that the Brooklyn icon is possibly working on a follow-up to Magna Carta Holy Grail, Jay has not given any official word about his next LP. But longtime production partner Just Blaze says he has a ton of Hov’s music stashed away.
Blaze spoke with Spin about his contribution to Beyoncé’s new smash album Lemonade. The discussion also included the New Jersey native revealing he has more than two LPs worth of musical work from Jay.
“A lot of people, when they work with Beyoncé or artists of that stature in general, there’s usually a number of [Non-Disclosure Agreements] involved and you go through a process. With me, there wasn’t much of any of that because I’ve known her for years and I’ve worked with Jay for almost 14, 15 years,” said Just Blaze. “Obviously, it’s never going to be an issue of security with me. I mean, I have at least two albums worth of Jay Z material sitting in my vault. So it’s not that they ever have to worry about me leaking records or releasing information. I give people sneak peeks when it’s appropriate or when the artists want to do it.”
Beyoncé’s Lemonade includes the Just Blaze produced cut “Freedom” featuring Kendrick Lamar. According to Just, both he and Bey’s team had the idea of adding Kendrick to the record, but before he could suggest getting a verse from the TDE rapper, someone in Beyoncé’s camp had already made the connection.
(AllHipHop News) There is a long history of Cash Money Records not properly paying artists, producers, and other individuals that have worked for the company. The label’s biggest star, Lil Wayne, is still fighting to get unpaid profits from CMR.
That reputation did not stop Atlanta based singer Jacquees from signing with Cash Money. In fact, the “Like Baby” performer told DJ Smallz he is happy with putting his name on a contract with Birdman and Slim’s imprint.
“That’s the risk I took signing a record deal. I’m not saying it was a risk because it was Cash Money. Nah, it was a risk because it was a deal,” stated Jacquees.
The former independent artist added, “It’s the biggest risk I ever took, and it’s the best decision I ever made of my life.”

To help promote the new LP, the Toronto rapper did a rare interview with Beats 1’s Zane Lowe for the OVOSOUND radio show. The discussion included Drizzy talking about the current status of his relationships with one of his musical idols Jay Z, former close collaborator The Weeknd, and fellow Young Money representative Nicki Minaj.
On Jay Z:
Really, I was trying to get [Kanye West] on [“Pop Style”] at first, and Ye just sent it to me like that. Like, “Jay just kind of did my first few lines for me. He was here and that’s how we flexed it.” It was cool. He was all excited like, “Just put The Throne. It would be a crazy moment.” Of course, people want to hear Jay Z rap, so hearing him do two lines might be frustrating to a certain audience…
I was just having conversation with Kanye. That just landed in my lap. I just dealt with it accordingly, and it didn’t exactly play how I would have wanted it to as far as business goes. So I just figured it would be easier to go with my version [on the album].
I’ve expressed my admiration and respect for Jay countless times. That will never change. Sometimes we just fall on opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to the rap world. It’s always just mutual respect, but sometimes it has to be from afar do to other situations that don’t have anything to do with me and him.
On The Weeknd:
At the end of the day, that’s my guy. We’re from the same city. We grew up with the same goal, trying to do this. A lot of the time we spent trying to do it together. There’s memories I’ll never forget. We spent real time. Not like other artists time. We put in real work together.
I’m proud of his success. We’ve both had our moments where we’ve maybe felt a way and taken it maybe a little left, but I can sit here and say I have nothing but love for everybody over there. I loved watching last year. It made me super happy. Well deserved.
[He] made a great body of work. As a lesson to any kid, that’s work effort. You make great music and you figure out how to roll it out the right way and do your thing, and that’s where it gets you. More power to him. I’ve never got the chance to tell him, but I send him all my blessings. I could never really want any ill for him based off the work we put in and where he’s from.
On Nicki Minaj:
I don’t really talk to Nicki. Again, another person that I have a lot of love and respect for. Not only for our past and how much work and time we put in, but even with the way she dealt with the [Meek Mill rivalry]. I understand what love is, and I understand a personal situation. She dealt with me how I would expect her to which was with class. I could only ever do the same.
There were points in time where I was sitting there waiting to see like, “Okay, is this going to go… I don’t know. Like, how deep is your love?” You got to ask yourself, but I’ll always have respect and love for Nicki. Unfortunately, we haven’t spoken, but it is what it is. Even if we don’t speak, she knows what it is. It’s always love.
(AllHipHop News) Embattled entertainer Katt Williams was arrested again after he allegedly threw a salt shaker towards the manager at a restaurant manager, Atlanta police said Thursday.
Police came to Spondivits restaurant after being notified of a fight around 10 p.m. Wednesday. The salt shaker struck the manager and bloodied the manager, according to police.
The report states that Williams family entered into the venue and wanted to sit in a reserved sitting area for another party. When they were denied, could with Katt Williams arrival, matters escalated into the alleged act of violence. Katt left, but was found at a nearby Waffle House eating.
Williams bonded out of the East Point jail early Thursday afternoon.
Katt Williams has been involved in several legal quandaries that have him embroiled in a number of cases ranging from aggravated assault to drugs and disorderly conduct.

(AllHipHop News) Shade 45 DJ, DJ Whoo Kid was arrested early in the morning at 1:30 AM on Tuesday.
The G-Unit affiliated DJ was taken into custody after he was found to be driving with a revoked license and a warrant for his arrest, this according to TMZ.
According to reports Whoo Kid is said to have been driving in the dark with no lights on.
In 2014 Whoo Kidd got caught up with a similar situation which explains the reason for the warrant and subsequent arrest.
Now Whoo Kid faces a June court date after he missed previous court dates, despite paying the necessary fines.
Most recently Whoo Kid made headlines for his feud with Meek Mill after heposted a video to his Instagram page of cartoon versions of Drake and Meek Mill wrestling.

Now the Jamaica Queens bred rapper is taking time to do a rare in-store for his Effen Vodka brand.
The in-store appearance will take place at a liquor store called Gerard’s Wine and Spirits at the Jersey shore, where 50 will sign bottles of the famed vodka for fans.

Now Utah based rapper, Jamesthemorman is making waves as the most popular Morman rapper ever, as today (April 28) the religious based rapper has now topped the iTunes charts at #1 on the Hip-Hop/Rap category.
On his chart-topping six-track EP I’m Not a Rapper, Jamesthemorman tackles issues that he faces being a Morman in 2016.
Jamesthemorman’s rapid ascension to top, albeit unlikely pits James above rappers like Drake, Future, Kevin Gates and ASAP Ferg – for now.
With Drake’s Views project set to drop at midnight (April 29) this run could be a short one for the Utahn, but its still worth noting the accomplishment.
The EP dropped on April 17th and is said to be a reflection of his beliefs in the Morman faith.
Similar to other rappers, Jamesthemorman has taken a liking to his local sports teams and features fans, coaches and players from local university BYU in the video for the “Motivation.”
Born James Curran, this 29-year-old Utah residing rapper grew up abroad in Russia, China and Uzbekistan according to KSL.com.
“I literally couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” Curran told KSL.com. . “So I’m here, and I’m in front of Drake, so that means I’m number 30 in the world. I called my friends for them to, like, verify that I’m not insane and they’re like, yeah, this is happening. They were all freaking out.”
Despite his Latter Day Saints background, Jamesthemorman says he wants people to feel unknowingly uplifted by his religious raps.
“I want the same vibe that people go to get a Drake album or Lil’ Wayne,” Curran added. “I want them to walk away uplifted without even realizing it.”

(AllHipHop News) Grammy-nominated Hip-Hop legend Slick Rick is set for his “Victory Tour” celebrating his newly earned status as a U.S. citizen.
After a 23-year, drawn out legal process, fans, artists and critics can join in celebrating Rick’s citizenship on several previously announced dates, as well as several newly added cities (see below).
The “Victory Tour” begins with the Kentucky Derby Festival’s “Waterfront Jam” on Tuesday, May 3rd and then travels to several cities across the Midwest and South.
A homecoming show in New York City is in the works and details for the NYC show will be announced soon.

“I wanted him to get a on a song and he was down to do the song, right. So we met at [former Universal Music Group chairman and CEO] Doug Morris’ office, man, at Universal a few years back and he heard the song and there was one curse word in it and he was like, ‘Yo. I can’t get on that. It’s got a curse word in it.”
Although Prince used profanity on some of his material, he later stopped cursing in his songs.
“That’s the evolution of people and their lives. You get older. You get wiser. Prince became a Jehovah’s Witness and he cut out all that so we didn’t do the song ’cause I needed that curse word,” said The Game.

Now after a close game 5 between Drake’s Toronto Raptors and the Indiana Pacers, a clip is going viral of Drake taunting Rodney Stuckey of the Pacers.
At a pivotal moment in the game with just over seven minutes left, Rodney Stuckey fell to Drake’s feet and quickly got up holding the ball.
Drake, who is dubbed an official Toronto Raptors ambassador, can then be seen clapping furiously behind Stuckey.
Stuckey didn’t turn around, but the fans have kept replaying it over and over, as the viral video of Drake taunting Stuckey has generated millions of views on YouTube, IG, Vine and other social media platforms.
In addition to taunting Stuckey, Drake had a special Instagram post for Paul George of the Pacers after the game captioned with, “I knew you were scared” and a smiley face.
Despite Drake’s crying meme, Paul George had 39 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists making George the first player to have that scoring line since LeBron James in last year’s NBA Finals matchup against Golden State, this according to ESPN.
In the past the NBA was rumored to have issues with Drake’s involvement with the Raptors, but they have yet to comment on this situation yet.

Ye went through several name changes (So Help Me God, SWISH, Waves) for his seventh studio album before settling on The Life Of Pablo close to the project’s release date. Just days before it is set to premiere, Drake’s once titled Views From The 6 LP is now officially just VIEWS.
According to Noisey, a Universal Music Group representative has confirmed Drizzy’s latest collection is no longer adding “From The 6” at the end. The 20-track set will include the previously released songs “Controlla,” “One Dance,” “Pop Style,” and “Hotline Bling.”
Apple Music users will get to hear VIEWS in its entirety during a special episode of OVOSOUND Radio on Beats 1. The show airs tonight (4/28) at 10 ET/7 PT.
(AllHipHop News) Over the past year, two up-and-coming rappers lost their lives due to gun violence. Atlanta’s Bankroll Fresh was murdered in March, and Chicago’s Capo was gunned down in July of last year. Fellow Chitown native G Herbo (fka Lil Herb) spoke with DJ Smallz about both tragic deaths.
Herbo admitted Bankroll was one of his favorite artists at the moment. The two were supposedly in talks to work together on some music before he was killed.
“To see that type of sh-t happening, it’s never a good sight or a good feeling. I come from that,” said Herbo. “I come from people trying to kill you. I come from people not wanting to see you make it.”
The Ballin Like I’m Kobe mixtape creator added, “I look a the whole Bankroll situation as similar to my homie Capo. That was my man… To see somebody that you genuinely f-ck with that’s making a difference and trying to make something better out of his life – it’s never good to see people lose their life. (AllHipHop News) California based emcee and activist, Unity Lewis, has joined forces with funk icon George Clinton.
In addition to George Clinton, Unity has acquired the music of Sly Stone, and P Funk Allstar, Sheila Brody aka Amuka, to bring you the visuals for “Free the Funk.”
In the new video, Clinton and Lewis tackle the issue of copyright infringement, something close to Clinton’s heart and something he has battled much of his career.
The track appropriately also features Sly Stone, who has had his own issues with copyright and sampling during his career.
‘Free the Funk’ is off the LP, <em>7th Dynasty</em>, which will be released on Arts and Entertainment on May 20.
The project is produced by Oakland’s Egon Brainparts of the production team Bossasaurus.
Other features on 7th Dynasty include up and coming rapper Holly Saucy and Bay Area legend Rappin’ 4-Tay.
All proceeds made from this project will go directly to the artists.

(AllHipHop News) The most highly anticipated Hip-Hop album of the year just got an official playlist as Drake unveiled the Views From the 6 tracklist on Twitter today (April 27).
The 20-track project features the songs “One Dance,” “Pop Style,” and also the bonus song “Hotline Bling.”
Earlier this week Drake posted a Tweet alerting followers of his OVO radio program on Thursday at 7 pm PT.
In addition to the album release, the Toronto rapper is jumping on a North American tour with Future tarting in July.
To add to the hype, Drake is prepping for his seventh annual OVO Fest that will begin later that same month.
Views From The 6 is slated to officially release in just two days on April 29.
(AllHipHop News) This week the murder trial of New Jersey rapper E-9 continues on as his alleged killers were charged in murder of the New Brunswick rapper born, Eric Andrews.
According to nj.com, up and coming New Jersey rapper E-9 was shot in a barbershop while watching a football game on December 29, 2013 by two brothers, Antwan and Zaire Cromedy.
The nature of the conflict rests on a dice game gone wrong according to Cromedy’s attorneys, who say that E-9 was the “bank,” holding the money.
While tussling with E-9, Antwan Cromedy is said to have pulled out a knife while giving a handgun to Zaire Cromedy with commands to shoot Andrews.
According to reports, E-9 was shot after Zaire Cromedy allegedly fired one shot killing E-9.
The two brothers were later indicted on first-degree murder, possession of a firearm for unlawful purpose and the unlawful possession of a handgun.
Antwan Cromedy was also charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon for brandishing his knife during the altercation.
Now just a few years after the untimely death of E-9, his friend 6FO, an AllHipHop Breeding Ground artist and frequent collaborator is speaking about the trial.
“I pray that his father and the rest of us can finally receive closure,” 6FO told AllHipHop in an exclusive interview.
“Its rough man, the trial is just now starting and it’s bringing up stuff that was almost 2 or 3 years ago. Now to hear all of this play-by-play with pictures and blood and bullet wounds, it’s tough. Then on top of that, it’s not your typical situation of war. Families know each other and it’s just messed up man. It was in a barbershop and people are taking a stand saying they didn’t see who shot who. We will see – we are going to put it in God’s hands. Whatever God wants is what it will be,” 6FO explained.
In addition to a lack of witnesses, there are allegedly questions about the potential of perjury amongst the witnesses after some of them have taken back previous statements.
“If you a civilian, be a civilian; if you a street ngga, be a street ngga,” 6FO added.
Amidst the trial 6FO is steadily working on music and was recently filmed with French Montana preparing new music and paying homage to E-9 (see below).
